Elafonisi has superb sandy beaches and is an ideal location for sun worshippers. There are a couple of traditional tavernas where you can sample typical Cretan cuisine. In the village of Elafonisi is Hrysoskalitissa Monastery which sits on top of a rock allowing wonderful views of the sea.
Elafonisi on the south west coast of Crete is a tiny island connected to the land by a lagoon of turquoise water and is popular in the summer with Greek holiday makers and remains a well kept secret from mass tourism.
